For the purposes of design I think we should shift your focus to be on Gimp. So from now on I would suggest excluding "bannersnack" and exclusively work from Gimp.

Okay, so now we should go over basics. I'm not sure how much you know so I'll cover some of the terminology you may come across during your application process.
Render (sometimes referred to as cut-out or vice versa) - an image that was cut from its background, usually in an transparent layer - can be found at planetrenders.net or googled
C4D - an abstract (often 3d) object. Used as an effect to add detail to the signature. Should not be the focal unless used in an abstract signature. Example.
Focal - the "point of interest" of the signature. Should be what the eyes are drawn to in the image. This is usually the render.

There are a number of others which will come up later in your application. Right now I suggest gathering some renders and C4Ds and begin to work on intergrating these into your pieces. Once you've shown some ability with these, I will move onto working with text effectively.

Meanwhile I am searching for some basic Gimp tutorials for you to work on.

>Go to export image the select .png if it hasn't already i recommend photobucket seeing as its the easiest one and it usually dosent hurt image quality

woof and I here are the GIMPers, along with Tommygun(did he switch programs btw?), but Tommy was injured fighting a Grizzly bear with a spoon, so you might not hear much from him. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I suck at giving a basic sweep of things, but ask me questions and I can try to answer them. I've been running GIMP since december, so I'm pretty familiar with most of the interfaces.

great sites and downloads to start you off.:

www.dafont.com - many of the fonts we all use, 100% free (becareful on copyrights)

http://greentunic.deviantart.com/art/Fractal-Pack-4-150661301 - a 4 pack of fractals that'll add spice to any design. Fractals, in my opinion, are great for making backgrounds, adding simple lighting effects, and color.

www.Google.com - Used to search for almost any render/stock. Use key words like..." RPG render" or "RPG HD" to get what you want. A lot of the cooler images will be listed under "large" size, due to them mostly being a background, ect...

Word of advice, just pump out as many sigs as you can. The more work we see from you, the more we know how to help you and being active is a great helper to this process.

I would also highly recommend you read Ivy's TIPS FOR APPLICANTS

Your text is always too distracting. Most signatures are about the image, and the text is secondary. try creating a Sig without text.

I agree with XGC Radioactive...the text is very distracting and they cover up the picture, which should be the focal point. If you use text try to blend it in the signature background.
