Honestly people that actually think CoD is a good game obviously haven't played many other games.
I play a mixture of games. Currently Reach and deus ex.

I've played halo before, and actually got, eh.. Kinda sorta into Halo 3.. But I could never get into it like COD.. Halo to me, is un-realistic, and COD is. I'm a realistic kind of person..
But for someone to say that COD isn't a good game? That's awesome, Halo players don't think COD is good, COD players don't think Halo is good.. It's a personal preference, and everyone is gonna like something differently from anther gamer.. Thats why opinions are awesome!! You're entitled to yours, and you aren't gonna convince someone that their personal opinion is wrong..

Halo is a game that is generally competitive. CoD on the other hand is designed for a market which does not like competition.
I have noticed that the vast majority of people that don't like Halo are not very good at it, to put it politely.
The fact of the matter is if CoD didn't spend the amount it does on marketing then the game would be a complete flop.

If you go to a tribe in Africa, that believe that they are the only ones out there, you won't convince them they aren't, unless they see for themselves..
I never said opinions are plausible, because someone can say, "I think the sky is orange" and it's an opinion.. Are they wrong yes.. Maybe they're color blind? So to them, no one will convince them that the sky isn't orange because that's how they see it...

On topic, CoD4 is my favorite and, in my opinion, the best by far. Also, in my opinion, as Activision made more money on the series, the production quality has gone steadily down hill, if not precipitously dropping to the point where, again in my opinion, MW3 is the worst they've made yet.
I like CoD . . . but I also like Halo (an obligatory statement?). It's likely that Halo 2 allowed for the existence of other multiplayer first-person shooters, so I give respect where it's due.
