I did Basic at Fort Jackson, SC in august which was miserably hot and humid. As far as basic I was raised by a Navy Captain so basic was no big deal. I was already used to being yelled at and having to make my bed so tight you can bounce a quarter off it. The only thing I really learned in Basic was how to hit those 300 meter targets with a M-16, and how to shine boots. People make alot more out of basic than what it really is. The thing about basic you have to understand is to create a Army Issued solider they have to break and strip you down both physically and mental to rebuild you back to what they need to function effectively in battle. I really think if more youth actually got to spend 4 years in the military out of high school they would be better adjusted as adults.
