Maybe something where you can register your mobile phone number, and have a list of updates you choose to get sent to your phone.
ex:

News feed
Personal Messages
Replies to your threads

That is a good idea but that might make some people's phones explode due to a HIGH incoming message volume lol

Maybe you can add a 'Only recieve SMS messages from 12:00pm to 5:00pm' sort of thing, or limit the amount of SMS notifications recieved per day.
