I have never been in combat per say, however I think FPS games help the people that used to be in combat remember that what they witnessed while in their service was indeed real because they can still remember and relate to it.

PTSD effects people in many different ways, that being said I have known a few people that do not play these games because they have flashbacks and other outbreaks. I personally hope that when I get home from my deployment that I don't get these effects because I really like those games.

I think like the others have stated that it depends on the person and also it depends on your particular experience. I was in Afghanistan myself and had nightmares when i first came home but they have mostly faded and I don't think that games ever really affected me.

Like everyone has said above PTSD affects people in a whole host of ways. For me and in my experience the games do make me thinks of things that happened but they also make me think of some good things as well and the memories of funny things that happened with squad mates when in barracks.
