So I have a wonderful iPhone 3gs that I have had for about a year and a half and now it seems to be overheating and acting like a piece of crap. It really sucks because I paid so so much for the phone and now it hardly, if ever, works. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else and ya'll happen to know a cheap, easy way of fixing it or getting it fixed so that I can actually use it as an iPhone instead of a glorified texting machine!! I am about ready to throw it out of a 6 story building and hope it smashes into thousands of tiny pieces!!:cool:

Can you give some more specific details like; How long after its turned on does it work until it overheats? What does the screen do when it does overheat? etc etc.

so it just depends on how long I am on it. For instance, if I get on my facebook app and look at pictures, posts, etc. for about 10 minutes of non-stop being on the internet the screen will just kind of get this horizontal green, black and white lines. It is super annoying. Then I have to wait about 45 minutes for it to "cool down" best as I can tell to turn it on again. It doesn't like me to make phone calls either. It does the same thing. I have already turned 3g and wi-fi off and the locater thingy-ma-bob but it still overheats!! It's driving me nuts cuz I can't afford a new phone!!

best i can tell unless you know how to open it up and apply thermal paste to the cpu you will just need a new one. There is no technique that will work other then applying the thermal to the cpu

A few things you could possably do are:

*Check if its still in warrenty
*See if you have it covered by any policies, for example my phone is covered against damage by the bank as I have an account with them
*Pay apple to repair it, although to be honest there prices are extortionate and you would more than likely be better off and possably cheaper buying a new phone, youd probably be able to get a 3gs for a lot less than you paid for it these days.

I wouldnt recommend upgrading to the iphone 4, only noticable improvement is the camara which still isnt as good as other, cheaper phones.

i had a similar problem my phone was a piece of crap until i got the new iphone 4 i found out that you can take your old phones and bring them to a geek squad and get a good amount of money for phones with your kind of problems mine didnt even turn on and it was work close to 100 bucks my opinion do that and get a new one
